Developing future business opportunities through Indigenous participation

Bis Industries offers Indigenous cadetships, which give Indigenous people an opportunity to study while Bis Industries sponsors them through a work placement throughout their academic journey.

Our first Indigenous Cadet, Bryanna Smith, is a member of the Noongar community from the South West of Western Australia.

In 2006 Bryanna applied for the cadetship through the 'Indigenous Cadetship Support' from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. Bryanna contacted Bis Industries, and we agreed to sponsor her. Bryanna is on track to achieve her law degree at the University of Western Australia in 2010.

After 2 ½ years sponsorship, Bryanna’s feedback is very positive: "It has been a positive experience. The company is very supportive in trying to expose me to various career opportunities ...being able to work with different sections of the business. Also, having an Indigenous department helps, as they are more understanding of the cultural issues."
