In 2008, BIS was approved as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). RTOs are recognised as providers of high quality, nationally recognised training and qualifications which are highly valued by employers and sought after by those developing a career. Our RTO has been named the BIS Skills Development Centre.
The BIS Skills Development Centre offers nationally recognised qualifications to employees through the BIS Skills Recognition Programme. The qualifications we currently offer are:
- Certificates II & III in Metalliferous Mining Operations (processing)
- Certificates II & III in Extractive Industries Operations
- Certificates II & III in Transport & Logistics (warehousing & storage)
- Certificates II & III in Transport & Logistics (road transport)
- Certificate IV in Frontline Management
Recognition of prior learning
Employees with experience in the industry will be able to achieve their qualification with a combination of training (on-the-job and off-the-job) and assessment.
In some cases, assessment includes recognising the skills the employee already holds through their work with BIS or with a previous employer.
