We own and operate a new woodchipping facility, storage and reclaim system which was developed to provide woodchips from plantation radiata pine logs for the production requirements of our customer at their Boyer site. The project involved the conversion of the existing chipping operations into a single, state-of-the-art facility.
Environment
The most significant environmental improvement is that the mill uses 100% plantation softwood. The new operations will significantly reduce the mill’s environmental impact through minimising future carbon market impacts and reducing carbon emissions.
Advantages
The mill delivers significant business advantages to our customer, minimising costs through the reuse of existing assets and facilities and through innovative and efficient operations. The mill operates on a 5 day, 12 hour schedule as opposed to the old system which operated on a 7 day, 24 hour schedule.
The mill provides an innovative, cost effective and environmentally friendly solution for our customer.
Technical Data
Bis Industries Log loaders are used to unload trucks, sort and store logs then reclaim them and feed the Wood Mill facility. The Woodchip plant was designed, manufactured, installed, commissioned and tested to process radiata pine logs varying in length from 2.4 — 12.0 metres long. The facility maximises log yield and generates chips with a cleanliness of < 0.5% bark.
