New Technology
Bis Industries Underground Division, in conjunction with independent engineers and manufacturers, has developed the first, fully certified Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) for the underground coal industry.
The new MEWP will be put to its first test at the Integra underground coal mine in the Hunter Valley at the end of April. Integra Coal have agreed to pilot the MEWP for a four week period, giving valuable feedback and operational evaluations to ensure we meet the operators needs and requirements for this type of equipment.
The MEWP will be pinned to a rebuilt Eimco 913-LHD. As the work platform is pinned, the basket cannot be removed from the LHD as traditional QDS attachments do today. The lift arm assembly is certified for this reason and cannot be compromised.
Full functionality is achieved within the basket once the driver isolates the controls within the cabin and transfers control to the basket. Once in the basket the operator has complete and full functionality of the MEWP without having a driver in the cabin. What used to take up to 3 men to do cables, piping and utilities can be reduced to two or even single man operations.
Bis Industries is committed to producing a number of these units for the industry and are in discussions with selected mines for hire opportunities of the new MEWP’s.
