Bis Industries provides non-core but critical materials handling and resource recovery services to the steel and related industries. More specifically, we specialise in handling, recovering, processing, storing and moving materials and products through our customer’s process chain.
We supply innovative, technical and specialised operational solutions. Each service is customised for each particular site and includes fixed and mobile plant along with supporting maintenance management, IT and communications systems.
Current services we provide include on-site facility services contracts and operations in areas such as slag handling, scrap handling, coil handling and packaging, bulk materials handling and processing and injecting pulverised coal into blast furnaces.
Pulverised coal injection (PCI)
Bis Industries built, commissioned and now operates a PCI plant with a capability to inject up to 1 million tonnes of coal per annum into our customer’s two blast furnaces.
The PCI plant processes raw washed coal, grinding and drying it to a fine coal in an inert nitrogen atmosphere. The fluid fine coal is injected 24 hours per day. This reduces the volume of coking coal needed to produce iron and is thus a cost effective fuel alternative for the customer.
Materials handling
We provide a range of materials handling services incorporating over 200 pieces of mobile equipment to support production operations across customers' sites in New South Wales and Victoria.
Slag handling
In South Australia, as part of a 24-hour production-critical service, we remove molten slag from our customer's blast furnace with specialised transporters and deliver the slag to a dedicated site for cooling, processing and recovery.
Scrap handling
We provide an integrated collection, processing and delivery service of steel scrap to re-use in our customer's South Australian steelmaking plant. The scrap is assembled and delivered in scheduled batches ready for direct charging into the steelmaking furnaces.
Bulk materials handling
We deliver various steel plant raw materials direct to a customer’s production processes in South Australia. This service includes mining, processing, haulage and shipment of iron ore, coal, coke and fluxing products. We provide forklifts to the shipping terminals in Port Melbourne and Burnie (Tasmania).
