BIS provides logistical services, including nickel ore support services, copper concentrate and heavy mineral concentrate transportation, sulphuric acid and zinc by-products distribution management, materials handling and shipping services.
Nickel ore support services
We provide multiple services to each of our customer’s nickel sites in Western Australia. Services include logistics, ore crushing, materials handling and industrial services customised to the individual requirements of each site.
We also support another customer's nickel and cobalt sites with facilities ownership and operation, terminal management, site logistics, calcrete ore process management and refinery industrial services.
Zinc ore support services
In western Queensland, BIS provides materials handling and load and haul services with 5-trailer dual powered road trains, each with a payload of 300 tonnes. BIS hauls zinc ore from the underground mine and open cut mines to over a distance of 17 kilometres on a sealed internal haul road. BIS has the ability to mobilise specialised fleet on short notice to handle fluctuations in volumes.
Fleet services & materials management - zinc
BIS supplies fleet services to a zinc refinery in Queensland, such as trucks, front-end loaders, utility vehicles, forklifts, elevated work platforms, buggies and other specialised equipment.
As a business partner for over 10 years, we manage the export logistics of all by-products. We coordinate the logistical process of lead, silver and copper, from processing, to the ship. We also handle all by-products packaging including bulk bags and shipping containers ready for export with tight shipping timeframes.
We manage the solar drying of by-product produced as a moist cake. We transport this product to a drying area where we let the sun dry the product with the help of small amounts of infused granulated lime. Once dry, our front-end loaders load the product onto trains for export thought the Port of Townsville.
We maintain the refinery’s concentrate handling facility, ensuring a constant supply of concentrate is provided to meet the processing requirements. Finished products include zinc ingots of various sizes and mineralised by-products.
Zinc load and haul
Our on-road load and haul services recently assisted in the development of a new zinc mine in North Queensland. The project was completed without incident.
We haul the product via an on-road fleet of side-tipping trailers of various configurations. Customers rely on us to manage the task from the ground up.
Copper Products Management
We provide equipment and services to a mining client for the recovery, haulage and processing of mineralised material from a tailings dam for reprocessing in the Charters Towers area in north Queensland.
Copper concentrate transportation
We deliver diesel to our customer’s remote mine site in Western Australia, and on the return journey transport copper concentrate to Port Hedland in specifically designed vehicles. With this innovative solution we optimise the loading capacity on both the inbound and outbound route.
We also transport copper concentrate from our customer's mine site to the port of Bunbury, 150 kilometres south of Perth. The route runs through two rural communities and in consultation with the customer and the communities we modified our vehicles to minimise noise and adjusted our service to minimise disruption.
Heavy mineral concentrate transportation
BIS transports heavy mineral concentrate from our customer's mine site to the processing plant at Chandala in Western Australia. We remove up to 70,000 tonnes per annum of waste from the Kwinana Pigment plant for disposal at the Cooljarloo mine site.
Sulphuric acid distribution management
Sulphuric acid is a by-product of nickel production at our customer's nickel smelter in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
We provide a complete solution to the smelter which includes road distribution of acid, acid loading and plant maintenance, acid tower repairs and dangerous goods risk management, rail loading and rail load-out facility maintenance.
Materials handling
We coordinate materials handling and managing feed and waste products through a customer's production process in Port Pirie, South Australia.
This includes handling concentrates into store, handling and managing residues and slag, batching, crushing, screening and feeding materials and waste streams, road maintenance, street sweeping and stockpile management.
